Annual General Meeting and Industry Conference (5 November 2010)

You are invited to the 2010 NT Agricultural Associations Annual General Meeting and Dinner on the 5th of November at Knott’s Crossing Resort in Katherine.

The AGM will be held from 10.30 to 12.00 for members followed by an open session of presentations and guest speakers from 12.45 to 4.00pm.

This year we are fortunate to have David Pearse and James Altmann speak, both of whom are leaders in their respective fields.  David has been involved in carbon markets, carbon funds and the carbon economy world-wide and  James is a leader in developing and implementing biological pest control in a wide range of crops.  Both David and James will outline potential spinoffs for the Territory and these presenters are not to be missed.

The AGM Dinner is always a great opportunity to socialise and catch up with friends and people in the industry.  This year will again be a fun and entertaining night with laughter, controversy and a light hearted look at agriculture in Cambodia, presented by our intrepid Rowena Eastick.

Mark your diaries, and we look forward to seeing you in Katherine.

Hay Marketing Information Day (5 November 2009)

Hay is the NT’s biggest broadacre crop and there are many issues surrounding its quality, marketing, supply and demand that are constantly being raised by individual growers. The NTAgA decided to run a day devoted to these topics and to try and highlight the issues and ways of dealing with these to advance the industry.

The day was not designed to collect confidential information, or interfere with existing marketing arrangements or get involved in collusion or prise setting.

Objective:

 Provide better market intelligence
 Explore alternative markets
 Networking opportunity
 Identify production and marketing issues
 Develop better marketing tools
 Improve communication and efficiency

The Association invited Tim Ford from FeedCentral in Queensland to relate his experience in marketing NT hay during the 2006/07 drought and to provide a snapshot of fodder marketing in Qld and southern Australia.

Other topics covered included the scope for export, getting more accurate estimates of supplies, production and demand, the possibility of forecasting demand, alternative markets and quarantine issues.

You can also download Tim Ford's PowerPoint Presentation.
You can also download Fergal O'Gara's PowerPoint Presentation.

Arthur Cameron of the NT Government presented his Fodder Industry Survey, which you may also find interesting.
