Welcome to the Northern Territory
Agricultural Association’s Newsletter!
Welcome to the November-December 2010 Newsletter, which outlines our recent
activities, up-coming events and fielddays.
While many of you may not know me, I have been farming with my wife Marie and family
just south of Mataranka for the past 10 years.
We run a melon operation in conjunction with my brother Stewart and also have operations in
Broome and Tennant Creek.
I have been on the Committee of NTAgA for
three years and have seen the industry grow
and struggle with the many policy and development
issues facing it, such as water allocation,
land clearing, biosecurity, occupational
health and safety and market access. Climatechange
policy will also have an impact on
how we make a living in the future.
It has been a tough year for many sectors of
primary industry in the NT, given the change
in markets. Agriculture is not an easy industry
and never will be. However primary industries
have a bright future and an important
role in contributing to prosperity of the NT.
To achieve this we must work together and
insure good policies and practices are put in
place that advance our industry.
Industry associations are the only voice agriculture
has and that is why I believe in building
a strong body to represent the views and
policies that will best represent and promote
our diverse industry. I am committed to seeing
NTAgA grow and become a better vehicle
for our collective industries and look forward
to a challenging but rewarding year ahead.
